Why the specs come first
Most mounting hardware is sold on a photograph. You see a clean desk, a floating monitor, and a weight rating that was rounded up from whatever the sample happened to survive. Then the arm sags three weeks in.
Merit started because we kept returning that hardware. Every product in this catalog is specified the other way around: we set the load, the travel and the tolerance first, then design the part to clear it with headroom, then publish the tested figure rather than the theoretical one.
What that means in practice
A mount rated at 17.6 lbs has held 26.4 lbs — 150% of its rating — for twenty-four continuous hours on a bench before the spec sheet gets signed. Gas springs are cycled 10,000 times. Clamps are torqued past their published limit until something yields, and then we make that part thicker.
It also means we price for components rather than centerpieces. Everything in the catalog is a part of a desk, not the whole thing, and it is priced so you can outfit a workspace a piece at a time.
Where things are made
Design, testing and support are handled in Ohio. Manufacturing is split across long-term partner factories we audit in person. Replacement parts are warehoused domestically, which is why we can mail you a single bolt in year four without it becoming a project.

Cycle life
Gas springs and slides run 10,000 full cycles, then re-tested against the original hold force.
Clamp torque
Every clamp is tightened past its published limit until a component yields.
Drop and vibration
Packaged units go through a standard transit simulation.
Finish adhesion
Powder coat is cross-hatched and tape-tested for chipping.
